Bed bugs might ruin your travel plans to France

Where is everyone heading during Q4?

šŸ‘‹ Iā€™ll keep this one short!

Weā€™re hitting summer in San Francisco (finally) and I wanted to share that the planning for next yearā€™s travel summit is hitting the ground running. We received ticket sales, are tee-ing up the speakers and programs, looking at swag options, and Iā€™m booking my flight to Taiwan for next year March 2023.

Until then, Iā€™ll be spending my weekends staying in the city and perusing Trader Joeā€™s seasonal fall items haha šŸŽƒ my fingers are itching to book flights, but I am staying home for the fam bam.

Bed bugs in France

Oh hell naw nawā€”there is a bed bug outbreak in France, from the metro, high-speed trains, movie theaters, and more.

ā€œNo one is safe,ā€ Parisā€™ Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire wrote on X, the site formerly known as Twitter. ā€œFaced with a bedbug infestation, coordinated measures are needed that bring together health authorities, communities and all relevant stakeholders to prevent the risk and act effectively.ā€

High heat and the dryer specifically can kill bugs. If youā€™re traveling around and donā€™t want to bring any pests back home, make sure to wash everything and inspect your luggage.

The Brown Girlā€™s Guide to Moving Abroad: Things I Wish I Had Known

  • Many South Asian women are hesitant to consider moving abroad because they feel guilty.

  • You may not be the perfect woman but you are still the dream of someone down your lineage.

Before I moved abroad, I had never even cooked a pot of rice, used a washing machine or gone grocery shopping by myself. With my parents wanting me to focus on my education, I had been shielded away from most household tasks. When I started living by myself, it was a huge shock to me on how to manage a household, complete domestic chores and feed myself.

I watched pixelated Youtube videos and wrote down recipes over Skype from my mother. But beyond that, I was surprised at how capable I was when dealing with immigration officers, asking strangers for help, filling out paperwork, navigating transportation and learning new languages. South Asian culture has us thinking that we need fathers, brothers and husbands to take care of us; and in exchange we give them our identities and devote our lives to them. When I moved abroad, I realized how inaccurate and flawed that was.

A Brain Snack from Rose Han, a successful millionaire and YouTuber šŸ§

  1. Treat failure as feedback - donā€™t be afraid of failure. You should see it as feedback to your approach. Pain + reflection = progress. According to Ray Dalio (American investor), if youā€™re not failing, that means your goals arenā€™t ambitious enough.

  2. Set your goals and plan your time around them - be specific in your goal setting and write them down where you can view them daily. Take charge of how your time is spent and review which task gets you closer to your goals.

  3. Learn insatiably - be voracious and read everything; you can find anything on the internet nowadays, especially from people you want to be like. If you canā€™t find mentors, you should read their articles, watch their videos, and consume all their content.

  4. Make your own luck - what are all the ways you can make this happen? Donā€™t make excuses and take inventory of what you can control. Thereā€™s always something you can do.

  5. Say no a lot - time, energy, and money are limited resources. Saying no will get you closer to your goal. Always ask yourself, ā€œWill this support the life I am trying to create?ā€

  6. Take care of your health - your productivity will take a toll. Eat healthy and take care of yourself so you can live a long healthy life.
