Canada is the latest country to add a digital nomad visa 🇨🇦

Hey AWWs! đź’ś

Here are interesting things we’re sharing today.

  • Expedition treks to Antartica are rising in popularity, with prices ranging from $1-100K depending on your type of adventure.

  • Canada is the latest country to add a digital nomad visa to woo tech workers.

  • We have three upcoming AWW meetups! Email us if you’re interested in hosting an event in your city.

RESOURCES & OPPS FOR THE TRAVELING AWW

🛂 Traveling: Learn how to volunteer abroad for 4-5 hours of work, 5 days a week, and expect to get food and accommodation in return. This nomad family shares how they’ve done it in the past with HelpX, WorkAway, and WWOOF.

📷 Inspired by an AWW: Trisha writes a personal post called “Thriving in the world of men: what I tell female digital nomads when they doubt themselves.”

📚 Reading: Quit Like a Millionaire: No Gimmicks, Luck, or Trust Fund required by Kristy Shen. She retired at age 30 with her husband and believes “money is simply a tool and not what you use to feed your ego. Once you have enough, you can use this tool to buy your time back.”

🧠 TIL: Pilots and co-pilots do not eat the same meal before a flight. This is to avoid food poisoning and passenger safety, thus separate meals are served.

WOULD YOU GO TO THE WHITE CONTINENT?

🧊 Tourism for Antartica has picked up in the past two decades. At the moment, tourists are only permitted to visit the White Continent in the Antarctic summer (late October to early March) when the weather is more temperate and visibility is easier for captains and pilots. Prices can range from $1K to high as close to $100K.

  • Fly over charted flights: these range from $1-10K but you’re seated in a plane for 12 hours for the sight-seeing views. The cheaper seats will be the ones in the middle of course.

  • Expedition cruises and fly-cruise hybrid: Week-long trips in shared staterooms, for example, start at about $5,000 per person while a 30-day trip in an executive suite can cost closer to $30,000 and up per person.

  • Fly-in and camping: According to the InsideHook, “The White Desert, for example, is the only hotelier in Antarctica and costs between $62,500 to $98,500 and up for a weeklong stay. Single-day trips from Capetown, South Africa to the Wolf’s Fang Runway are also available for $14,000.”

POUTINE, Here I Come!

🇨🇦 Another country has announced a digital nomad visa for remote workers looking to switch things up, and U.S. applicants won’t even need to leave North America.

Canada will soon join the group of countries that permit digital nomads to work remotely within their borders. Anyone who works as a freelancer, vlogger, blogger, or other remote job is eligible to apply for Canada’s digital nomad visa.

According to Apartment Therapy, “Canada just announced its own program, targeting STEM professionals in hopes of filling a national shortage. The country already offers a program that allows foreign residents to transition from a work visa to a work permit if they’re employed with a local company, and remote workers can stay in Canada for up to six months on a visitor visa alone.”
