The family friend who ripped down her medical career to pursue something that made her happy

In high school, I had a family friend who was extremely bright. She was well liked in her circles, did all the right things, and ended up joining a medical program. No one was fazed by her ambitions as we knew she would excel, and her parents gloated and had all the Asian bragging rights. Six years in, we later find out that she completely disappeared and quit the program, was in thousands of dollars in debt, and taking a long break to figure herself out.

The whole Asian community was flabbergasted and shocked.

This workshop will empower you to define success with your most authentic self.

We later found out she pursued that entire career to make her parents proud, only to rip it down to protect her well-being and mental health. I thought it was brave, but also hard to rewire what success means to us as a community.

From what I know, she went back to school to study design and is a UX designer in tech. She’s a lot happier, though it took her six years to figure that out.

Tomorrow, we host The Sassy Therapist, Angela Wu, to share how we can learn psychological concepts that help us understand our beliefs and behaviors that lead us to chasing a certain success that isn’t ours. I find this workshop incredibly important, especially to us female Asians who are heavily influenced by cultural factors that influence our “perception of success.”

We listen to the narratives of our Asian parents (perhaps the most), as we want to make them proud and happy. We feel like we owe them or we’re obligated because of the sacrifices they’ve made. However, this workshop will help us listen to the narrative of our own self—to look deeper into our own core beliefs, to pursue a life that is authentic, and to be empowered with the new practical tools we take away. If this is you, we’d love to have you join our workshop tomorrow.

You'll know the exact path that is the most ideal for you to pursue your life & career abroad with a step-by-step guide you'll work through.

Solopreneurship doesn’t have to be lonely 🩵

Building a business alone is tough. Trust me, I know.

There’s probably 40 different types of small projects I’ve tried, done, and quit. There’s only 2 that survived. By leaning on my friends in business, I was able to learn from other’s perspectives and grow my own brand.

As an Asian female solopreneur myself, the beginning was a lot of googling online or confiding in a couple of friends who were building businesses themselves. As Asian Wander Women grew, I noticed a gap for Asian women who wanted to start or expand their businesses, but felt stuck because they were doing it all by themselves.

That’s why I created the AWW Business Collective for Asian female solopreneurs to build businesses side by side, chat partnerships and collabs, as well as wins and milestones.

We’re stronger together when we support each other, when we bounce ideas off each other, when we need the accountability, and are part of a community we feel like we belong.

We’re a small community at the moment, but we’re growing! Check out our business community or follow us on Instagram.
