“GIRL MATH” MENTAL ACCOUNTING
The term “Girl Math” originated from TikTok’s latest trend of reframing the narrative around luxury purchases. Girl math is a new and often illogical way to justify almost all spendings.
Picture this: You're contemplating a big purchase, say, a designer handbag. Instead of focusing on the grand total, "Girl Math" encourages you to break it down into a "cost per wear" perspective. Suddenly, that retail therapy doesn't seem quite so extravagant, right? Or maybe you decide to pay for your daily coffee with cash rather than using a credit card. This way, it almost feels like you're getting your caffeine fix for free.
“Instead of relying on ‘Girl Math’ to justify everyday expenses, consider a method that empowers you to make informed choices while still enjoying life's pleasures,” says Vivian Tu.
