  • New York and Singapore tied for first place as the most expensive city to live in—according to the Worldwide Cost of Living Index, the average cost of living has gone up 8.1% in 2022. Tel Aviv, Israel came up in second. You can read the full report here.

  • Indonesia bans sex outside marriage, which applies to everyone, including foreign residents and tourists—it's a potential one-year prison term. The new law criminalizes "anyone who cohabits before marriage, performs apostasy (abandonment of religion), and insults the president or expressing views counter to the national ideology." 

  • Entrepreneurship tourism is a new kind of travel. As shared by Ming Xia Ho (Head of Community at Draper), it’s a subset of business travel and tourism. Think of it as the global movement of business travelers towards countries, cities, ecosystems, due to favorable conditions for innovation and economic activity in the region.

  • Here are 49 countries offering digital nomad visas, including Malta, Mexico, Portugal, Seychelles, and Croatia.

  • New Zealand offers working holiday visas, usually aged 18 to 30. Typical backpacker jobs in New Zealand include hospitality, tourism, ski resort work, sales, temping, and fruit picking/harvest work on farms and vineyards.

  • Bali is allowing tourists to live in Bali for 10 years to those with at least $130,00 USD in their bank accounts. This is an initiative to attract wealthy global citizens for long term stays.

  • Singapore introduced “a five-year visa for people earning at least S$30,000 ($21,445 USD) a month that allows holders to hold multiple jobs and give spouses eligibility to work,” quotes Reuters.
