How I Plan Memories with Intent

a peek into how I have structured my social life

Planning Memories with Intent

Time is so limited these days. I want to do all the things, but I’m also at that point in my life where I don’t want to cram 100 things into 1 day because sometimes, I just want peace. So when I do plan something, it’s with intent and it’s one thing per day.

Most recently, I told my partner that I wanted to be more intentional with how we spent our time with friends. After a series of never ending dinners and drinks, I made the resolve to do other things that also involved exercise, peace, or working with my hands. I would also choose more selectively what I wanted to do and not feel socially obligated to come out just because we were invited.

I try to hit at least two of these:
- it involves some sort of exercise, walking, or movement with my body
- I will learn something new or I’ll meet someone new
- I am working on something alongside this person and can bounce ideas around during discussions
- whatever I’m doing is restorative, non-chaotic, and peaceful
- I am in nature, be it greenery or by water

This comes in the form of:
- playing tennis with our friends in San Mateo
- going for runs and then checking out the farmer’s market right after
- doing running 10Ks with our friend group and then brunching afterwards
- hosting a girls’ night at my new place while we bake together
- planning couples trips with my best friends as a getaway! next up is perhaps an exclusive retreat in Mexico
- planning a group trip with my overseas friends so we can reunite once a year

Since these small tweaks in my social life, I’ve found myself to be a lot happier, rested, and content.
