The World is on Fire. How to Keep Your Sanity

Sharing some tips on how to manage uncertainties around career, life, and your future

The World is on Fire. How to Keep Your Sanity

Every time I open my social media apps, I am bombarded by the craziness happening around the world and bogged down by certain stressors in my life. Inflation, cost of living, geopolitical tensions, career uncertainties, and worries about AI. While I can’t control everything, there are some things I do to keep the fears at bay.

  1. Control what you can - a lot of things are out of your control, but you can control what you put into your mind, what you eat, what you do for exercise, how you build and treat the relationships with people around you

  2. Fixate on calm - I once did this meditative workshop where we walked around in a park, observing small details and movements of the world around us. We were told to savor the feeling of wind, the breath we took, and every small detail of things happening around us. It helped ground me and was its own meditative practice

  3. Be curious and throw your net far - some of the best conversations I’ve had were through being curious, being interested, and asking questions. The more touch points and people you meet, the farther your throw your net out for a chance or opportunity of something. Especially when it comes to finding a job or pivoting your career, there may be the next inspirational spark waiting around the corner

After traveling to 150 Countries, She Chose to Live in Mexico. Here’s Why.

Nellie Huang is a travel writer and Lonely Planet author.

She shared, “Living in Mexico has changed our lives in more ways than we could have imagined. In San Miguel de Allende, we awake to the morning sunshine sipping through our window and the sound of birds chirping. Where we once rushed through breakfast, our mornings are now slow and intentional. We spend more quality time together as a family, focusing on being present rather than distracted by work or screens.

San Miguel draws people who, like me, have defied the rules of conventional living. We all came here with a purpose and to live life on our own terms. I’ve built many lifelong friendships with like-minded people here. So has my daughter, who is thriving in a relaxed school environment where creativity is valued more than academic excellence. My husband, who works at the crack of dawn — European hours — gets to spend more time with us and has found the freedom that he yearned for.”
